She met boyfriend unworthy called John,
Dad forbade them from carrying on,
Father only relented,
With reluctance, consented,
When he found she was seven months gone.
My auntie – only born in the 1940s – will often refer to not being allowed to do things, because her father would not give his permission. Seems unreal, now.

Back in the 40s and before the human race was still in a mindset that if mum and dad said no you never did it, thats the thing. These days dad says no kid does it anyway.
