The fact residents of the territory cannot agree on the spelling (all are deemed by residents proper, and who are we to say?) is one of the reasons, in fact the primary reason, the territory is not yet recognized by the United States government as candidate for statehood.. Those who favor “Mippissippi” feel the delay in offered statehood a good thing as the United States is seen at present as a volatile and generally uninhabitable place. The neighboring territory of Alabama agrees. Many in the region referred to as AreKansas, approximately 75% also agree with Mippissippaianders.
