Trousers or pants, people here will know what you mean. I guess trousers is used more formally. Underwear pants are commonly just undies. Boxers maybe but that’s more specifically boxer shorts. Then of course there are the speedos!
My mum even wore “slacks”, back in the day. They were pants too, I guess the nearest equivalent was sweatpants, but that word’s never used these days.
In my twenties, we had two phrases – “pants” (which meant bad (crap bad)) and “the pants” (good). Don’t get confused 🙂

Ha, we use pants and I thought Brits said trousers? We rarely use (the word) trousers these days, although, I am considered old, what do I know?
