It’s insufficient
To exhort
One fine, autumn day.
Insufficient
To attend
The annual ritual
Insufficient
to relapse
To belligerence
We must reflect, question.
Understand.
The failures.
And learn.
To render their sacrifice
Worthwhile.

Thanks Ana. I always feel that half of these remembrance commemorations is missing.

Yup. The only point of remembering is so we can prevent it happening in the future. Otherwise we;re just saying, “make your sacrifice and it’ll make no difference whatever”

Exactly right Pete. If it doesn’t changes our way of thinking, it’s just waste of precious lives

Hi Luisa, it always feels to me like half of the story is missing in these commemorations.

We wondered why previous generations ‘let it happen’ and we are doing exactly the same.

True. What we should be remembering was that people founght WW1 as “the war to end all wars”. And how wrong they were!
And after WW2, people really believed that they were fighting for change. Hence the Labour landslide in 1945 – an outright rejection of the status quo. But, how short-lived it all was!
Let alone the more recent wars which seem to have gained absolutely nothing.
