Maneater

Clipart image of a woman's seductive lips and eyes

inspired by Fandango’s One Word Challenge (FOWC) of 5 August 2022, explicit.

On a barstool, was nursing my drink,
Met a woman so hot, had to blink,
She then whispered, no bull,
“Fetch your coat now, you’ve pulled”,
And led me home with a smile and a wink.

  1. Somebody added the song “Maneater” to the playlist in our car. I don’t like the term. A man who behaves in that same way is called a “womaniser” like an organiser or a fraterniser or a synthesiser. But a woman exhibiting those behaviours is made out to be so aggressive and damaging. So even while the song is very catchy, I tend to skip it. But from your limerick, it seems that it’s possible men would be as pleased as punch to be “eaten”.

    • I think you might be reading too much into the limerick – I’ll use either gender because I don’t see any difference between them – but yes, the song is crap.
Today’s limerick I had already started writing it referring to “me” so to write the character as a woman sdeemed sensible. 90% of us are hetero, after all. A woman rtequires no further explanation (or so I thought 🤣). Perhaps if I were gay I’d have chosen a different course.

        • The older I get the more convinced I am that regardless of gender, people are basically the same.
If a maneater is someone who sleeps with someone the night they meet, I’ve known women like that. I known that because I’ve slept with some. What does that say about me? Same as it does about them, surely?
