A romantic young man from Argyll,
Asked a girl for her number. She smiled.
When the chap, still enthralled,
Found the courage and called,
The voice said, “I’m afraid you misdialled.”
Happened to me once, when I was only about sixteen. I saw this stunning girl at some function or other. I was far too shy to actually talk to her but at the end of the evening I somehow summoned up the courage to ask her for her phone number. When I called it, they’d never heard of her – she’d obviuously given me the wrong number just to get rid!
Best looking woman I didn’t quite go out with!

I know it’s in Scotland but not sure where. I suspect that’s what I’d do too, tbh. If you’re gonna reject someone’s advances, better to do that than risk a confrontation.
Plus in my case it was the pre-cellphone era.
