For Fandango’s Story Starter #30, where we build something around the following phrase:
Life had just seemed to pass me by until that day when….
Life had just seemed to pass me by until that day when I got home from school. Letting myself in, I was not surprised to find the house a deathly quiet, as I was the first home.
Feeling hungry, I decided to fix myself a sandwich. In the breadbin, I found a delicious onion bagel that we’d bought from the mall just yesterday. Popping it into the toaster, I opened the fridge to retrieve the butter and cheese.
Imagine my surprise when a dark, wiry hand passed them out to me.

Eeek!

We can get Reeses here! Peanut butter cups, yeah?
I would already have been along to scoff them.

Reese’s pieces were what Elliot gave ET to eat
Reese’s peanut cups are good you’d have to fight me for them 😂😂😂

I can imagine. I can’t really have them now but I did used to love them. I like most things “gummy”, just that chewy texture.
When I was in the US my ambition was to find a Twinkie btw. I never really got on with Hersheys.

Twinkie’s are very sugary
I liked Ho Ho a instead and Little Debbie’s 😁

Oh truly American junk food I’m
befuddled at the moment to think of an UK equivalent

We gotsome American goods, for example when a UK supermarket got bought by Walmart. Plus brands like Cadbury are ubiquitous (are they owned by Kraft now?)… I think lots of candy here is Nestle now, which puts us more in common with Europe than with the US. I guess everything by Mars is identical.

Yes I agree Mars stuff is very similar
I grew up on Almond Joy and Mounds bars along with Hershey chocolate 🍫

I think most of the US food brands I know, I know from the movies. It’s a bit different now because everything seems more global, but certainly, growing up….

Oh sure market placement in movies like Reese’s Pieces in ET were goldmines of free advertising for US goods and computers and cars and clothes

The BBC used to ban all that. Like, you’d see a box of cereal someplace and they would have placed a black patch over the name.

Ahh in US product placement is king !
