On the music blog I co-host, Songshine Sounds, we challenged people to name a song that reminds them of their schooldays. This is my second response.
One of the teachers at school had the nickname Gordon. Can’t think why.
If you think that’s bad, we also had one called Bondo (hint: not because of his name!). Boys schools, those were the days…
I love how raw this track sounds, even now. Like someone just came in, picked up a guitar for the first time, then hit record. Which is probably what happened. And, before you pass judgement, this song was a big hit in the UK (#4) at the end of the Seventies!
Teenage angst in a song, took me right back to when I was young and playing records on my record player.

oh, yes. I’m there with you.
Actually I do think it is amazing that we can have all these memories, and there are services now where we can just play the tracks themselves.

I have never heard this. What a riot. Hope your schooldays were a bit calmer than this, Mr. B.

It never crossed the pond? No kidding? Punk was special to us, I think.

If it did I missed it. You should feature a punk track soon on Songshine, spread some of the angst. 😉

Do you think WP could handle it? Seriously, there was a lotr of feminist stuff back then – the good thing about punk was that there was no gender bias whatever – but musically, most of it was rubbish. Hearts in the right places, although the few bands who were commercially successful were generally ridiculed by punks themselves.
This album came with a great fold-out poster:
