inspired by Fandango’s One Word Challenge (FOWC) of 18 August 2021, awry.
You might think they weren’t right in the head,
When they jetted to Vegas to wed,
But their plans went awry
The officiant stood by,
When the girlfriend played blackjack instead.
Has a lovely ring to it, don’t you think? But that’s what they’re called, I looked it up. Officiant.

Love this limerick, and yes, officiant is very fitting; such a calming and smooth word.

It feels so impersonal. But I guess we were married by a registrar, so what’s the difference?

I hope she won at the cards and got the wedding she wanted.

really? they don’t mind relatives? Was that in Ca? Somebody tried to tempt me to go to LV once but really it seems like Hell on Earth. I did get to Atlantic City when I was over.

It was in Massachusetts, actually.

ah, okay, so it’s universal.

haha! That flows beautifully. Incidentally, I’ve learned I they were called officiants in in Vegas during an episode of CSI involving aliens. Well done, Pete!

Have a look at Fandango’s comments, he’s in Ca, so the name might be ubiquitous. First time I heard it, I was gonna just use Elvis 🤣

Ah maybe it is the same across the USA then. Indeed the CSI episode was a about a Elvis officiator falling out with an alien one lol
