For Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge #124, where we write about this photo by Adrien Olichon at Pexels:

1:45. “Did I do the right thing, I wonder?
He seemed ever so nice, and when he asked me out, I felt so flattered. Nobody has paid so much attention since… oh god, since I can’t remember when. Since long before that messy divorce from Steve.
I figured this was a nice, safe date. A Sunday lunchtime barbeque with my tennis friends. Low risk, he didn’t seem like an axe murderer, but these days, you never know.
I hope he manages to find the place. It took me long enough to get here. It was good of Jack to host this barbeque for us all, but his place is a little off the beaten track. Still, this is a lovely garden.
Hmmm… Almost 2:45. I guess he’s not coming then. Oh, that’s a pity, maybe he got scared off? But at least it happened early on, before we’d gotten too attached to each other.
I wonder, should I go to that Divorcees Night again next week? I wonder if I can talk Martha into coming with me? If only she can find someone to babysit, I’m sure she’ll enjoy herself there. It will be good for her to have a break from the children, I think. She seems so devoted to them, and never seems to have a minute free now that she has to go it alone.
2:55. No, he can’t be planning to turn up. I think I’ll give this place another half hour, then look to scoot myself. It’s just as well, I suppose, that I didn’t say anything to anyone. A shame, all the same. Henry felt like he might have been something.
Just one more small glass of wine, I think, and then I’ll get going. I should just about be able to manage that, and still drive home.
Oh, what’s that commotion at the gate? Who can be arriving at this hour?”

Oh the drama of waiting….

Used to be I waited all day for a date to turn up. Now I just wait all day for a wife to turn up 🤣

The big question is whether or not he was worth the wait!

Wow, this is real insight into the classic over thinker . Thank youZ I’ve been wondering what it must be like and now I know .

An overthinker? I could do with one of them to balance things out!

I think if you break the scale, you can’t balance it. But, now that I think about it, an over-thinker might be great for you.

Ans anyway, all this from the woman who finds something on every line?

There’s always room for improvement. Wouldn’t want to make any of the lines feel bad, would I?
