I once drove a ramshackle car,
Got around but it never went far,
Until one night, it spluttered,
It stopped dead in the gutter,
Had to trudge my way home ‘neath the stars.

My very first day of my very first job, I was instructed to meet so-and-so from HR in the foyer. At the appointed time, I’m sitting there and somebody else shows up, someone I’d never heard of.

She says, “I’m sorry, Mandy couldn’t get here today, she has had a vreakdown”.

Straight away, I assumed it was a nervous breakdown, so am sitting there worrying, thinking, “Crikey, what kind of a shower did I just join?”

Took a few months, with these guys, to realise that my first thought had probably been bang on the money.
