House Guests

I was pleased to learn, over the weekend, that the place has guests.

My daughter came to stay for a few days. For those of you who know my history, we’re still in contact and getting on really well at the moment. For those who don’t, we had an extremely fractious relationship in her teens, and it’s only just mending itself ten years later.

Anyway, I digress. Daughter likes to do stuff. Needs to be active. That’s just who she is. And me, I’m not going to refuse when she offers.

I’ve been working on clearing a part of the garden all summer. It hasn’t been used since my stroke so there is eight years of growth. So not major, but for me, substantial. I put her to work.

I expected her to clear a few feet, but she cleared the whole patch for me!

One of the results of this was that we also gained access to an old composter in the corner. However as she got closer to it, she noticed lots of beasties flying around, so she held back.

Turns out I have a hive of bumble bees in there!

What you see is the composter, in green, the old compost, pitted with bees and tunnels!

Enterprising daughter managed also to contact a bee expert in the next village. They’ll stay all summer then buzz off in the autumn. The bees, that is; the expert went already 🤣.

Fine by me. On my own, it would’ve taken me that long to clear the space anyhow!

    • Not really, only to store stuff there while I clear another space. There are a few where I’ve just let it get too overgrown, When I was still with my wife it never bothered me, but now the place is entirely mine I want to get on top of things. Over the last year I’ve bought a load of tools, too, which I can use one-handed. A lot of the clearing was done with a strimmer which can hang around my neck.
