I must admit that I thought minestrone was Italian, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it was called “minestrone”. Perhaps one of my Italian readers might comment?
This is apparently a dessert of sponge layered with jelly and custard. So, trifle.

This one is for me, even though I had to guess because I didn’t know that its name in English is Trifle (c)

I guessed “trifle” because Iknow the French for custard is “creme anglaise” so I thought the Italian might contain “cream” too (which is crema isn’t it?)

I would’ve guessed some sort of beastie that has custard.

Yeah, I knew it was custard or trifle. IU know “custard” in French is “creme anglaise” so I guessed that would be maybe crema. Zuppa inglese is apparently a native Italian dish, but it closely resembles trifle..

Your amica Siciliana checking in here. The noun ‘zuppa’ means soup and has a derivative in the verb ‘inzuppare’ with means “to dunk”. Just as we may dunk bread in soup or biscuits in coffee, ‘zuppa inglese’ is made by dunking lady fingers or sponge cake into liqueur then alternated with layers of ‘crema pasticciera’ which is a lemon egg custard. It is sometimes drizzled with melted chocolate or topped with whipped cream and is always quite deliziosa! 😋

It must be hard if you’re not European. I guessed if just from my knowledge of French – Italian is quite similar, they’re both derived from Latin. But really, unless you have those languages I’m not sure how you’d get there.
