    • Yeah, I knew it was custard or trifle. IU know “custard” in French is “creme anglaise” so I guessed that would be maybe crema. Zuppa inglese is apparently a native Italian dish, but it closely resembles trifle..

  1. Your amica Siciliana checking in here. The noun ‘zuppa’ means soup and has a derivative in the verb ‘inzuppare’ with means “to dunk”. Just as we may dunk bread in soup or biscuits in coffee, ‘zuppa inglese’ is made by dunking lady fingers or sponge cake into liqueur then alternated with layers of ‘crema pasticciera’ which is a lemon egg custard. It is sometimes drizzled with melted chocolate or topped with whipped cream and is always quite deliziosa! 😋
