For Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge #184, based on the image above from the WordPress Photo Library (because nothing’s Free). This is a quick one, one minute.

“I don’t care anymore. We should discuss this more when we’re both feeling more civil. But I think right now, you should leave.”

“Leave? Where? This is my home, for God’s sake. I have nowhere to ‘leave’ to.”

“Go to your parents’. To your sister’s. You can even go round to his place, for all I care.” Gathering steam, Phil continued. “Yes, that’s a good idea. Go round to your fancy man’s. Introduce yourself to his wife and kids, while you’re at it. I really don’t give a shit where you go, darlin’, just FUCK OFF!”

Phil emphasised these last words. It was clear, as he banged the door behind him, that the conversation was over.

Tears welling up in her eyes, Rachel called her best friend. “Denise? Can I ask a big favour?” A huge sniff. “The shit has hit the fan here. Can I come stay at your’s tonight? Phil has found out about Karl and I.”

    • Possibly. I think an affair signals that there’s something wrong in the marriage, period, before you even start to think about someone else on the scene. Was she wrong to go off with someone? Maybe but she could have been equally wrong to stick around if the.marriage had turned sour. Besides, we don’t know what he was up to. I was always able to pick up the vibes when things weren’t right, so maybe he was playing away, too?
I don’t think any of these bonds are necessarily permanent any more.
