Going Up in the World

Hmmm… what to do today? Looks a bit like rain, maybe just sit under these trees until the shower passes?

Hello, there’s a young girl walking down the path. And what’s that wicker basket she’s carrying? Did she bring anything for me? I ought to take a closer look.

Oh, my, those yellow flowers look pretty. I wonder how sweetly they smell?

HEY LADY, KEEP YOUR HAIR ON! I was only looking, alright? Crikey, keep ‘em, if they mean that much to you! I’ll get my own!

Now, where did she come from? Ah, yes, up there. Well, two can play at that game. I can follow pathways, too.

Oh, what’s this, a gate? That looks tricky, but look, there’s a gap in the hedge just here. Easy Peasy.

There, told you. A cinch. Right, back to this path. Onward and upward. And, we’re definitely going upward! That path’s not so well-defined now, either.

WAH, almost lost my footing there. I must be careful. And I don’t like how this weather’s closing in.

Ugh! This is turning really nasty. Maybe I should have stayed under cover after all? Ach, but I must be near. I’m sure I’ll see some of those flowers soon. And the path is getting worse – and steeper.

What’s this? Who put a gulley up here? Oh well, never mind. It looks small enough, I should be able to ford it. Ouch, that water is cold!

Okay, let’s get my bearings. Gosh, I’m not too far from the top, but I can see yellow in the grass over there. I’ll take it easy on this excuse for a pathway and it’ll take me right there.

Oh, yes, those yellow flowers look pretty. Let’s see how sweetly they taste.

Ah, delicious! I’ll grab a bellyful here, then work out how to get back down.

This flash was based on a photo by Tobias Rademacher on Unsplash. I loved this chap’s expressionless face, as though being up there was the most natural thing in the world.

    1. brilliant image, no? I used to love when I cycled, I could be in the middle of nowhere and would ride past a field of cows. They’d regard me in a disinterested way, as if to say “what are you up to, you dumb fuck”
