Just for fun, answers below. The next batch of questions I released for the Age UK Lockdown newsletter. Hardly anything UK-specific this week so I am expecting everybody to do brilliantly!

Answers

1.

4 days (thanks, F) Think backwards. The bucket fills with twice as much water each day, so if, on Day #5, it is full, it must have been half-full on Day #4, a quarter of Day #3, an eighth on Day #2, a sixteenth on Day #1 etc.

2.

Marlon Brando. Do they get any easier than this? 🤣

3.

A frog! They live on a couple of islands in the Caribbean (Montserrat and Dominica) and are one of the world’s largest frogs.

Just a goose. A male is called a gander, but a female is just called a goose!

    1. thank you, anything I did not know already was easy enough to find on the web. If you look of standard “pub quiz” sites, a couple of these seem to be standard questions. I essentiAlly collated them.

  1. In 1698, Emperor Peter I of Russia instituted a beard tax to bring Russian society in line with Western European models. To enforce the ban on beards, the tsar empowered police to forcibly and publicly shave those who refused to pay the tax.
