Last week, Jim (NewEpicAuthor, A Unique Title For Me) set a theme of being in isolation (my choice). This week, theme of Mexico.

Okay, so we have a Mexican theme today. It took a bit of head-scratching but eventually it came to me. This tune was actually written by Phil Collins for his movie Buster in 1988, and became a hit for The Four Tops reaching #7 in the UK. (It was originally released as a B-side in the US, and therefore didn’t chart.) Collins also drummed on the track. Here’s Loco In Acapulco.
Going loco down in Acapulco if you stay too long
Yes you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
The magic down there is so strongFeel the pressure your back’s against the wall
Love is gaining on you you’re just about to fall
If you’re afraid to love afraid to take a chance
You better hide your feelings get out while you can‘Cause you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
If you stay too long
Yes you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
The magic down there is so strongYou can hear voices bleeding through those warm Latin nights
Memories are lost and found
Leaving broken hearts all over town‘Cause you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
If you stay too long
Yes you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
The magic down there is so strongYou’ll be pulling out your hair drowning in despair
With a whole lot of nothing on your way to nowhere
Your search for paradise will come to an end
When you realize what a fool you’ve beenYou’ll be haunted by her face
Missing her warm embrace
Memories of loving her
Holding her tight every night
Was that the best part of your life?
Hearing her voice soft and low
Begging you to please
Please don’t go
Don’t go
No! Don’t go! Don’t go!You can hear voices bleeding through those warm Latin nights
Memories are lost and found
Leaving broken hearts all over town, all over town‘Cause you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
If you stay too long
Yes you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
The magic down there is so strongGoing loco down in Acapulco if you stay too long
Yes you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
The magic down there is so strongGoing loco down in Acapulco if you stay too long
Phil Collins
Yes you’ll be going loco down in Acapulco
The magic down there is so strong
Nice classic choice! Levi’s voice is just golden! 🙂

must admit I was surprised when I read that Collins wrote this.

In his early days, I thought he was “just a drummer” who could sing. He’s proved me wrong many times over. 😊

I have not heard of the Four Tops in years and I think that three of them are dead. Anyway great music Pete.

Another song I’d never have thought would have fitted SLS 🙂

Now I know who wrote it I can recognise some familiar trends. I wouldn’t have guessed though!

No, I remember it because I have the soundtrack somewhere but I’d have never guessed it was Phil Collins. I had an album of his from around that time but I was always more “aware” of him than a fan. But he obviously has many strings to his bow!

I love the soundtrack to Buster. My favorite Phil Collins song is on there (Two Hearts). Love Loco In Acapulco! ❤

Gosh, yes, he had the world at his feel in those days, didn’t he? I always liked “Against All Odds” from years earlier and “Another Day in Paradise”, which I guess was later.

Those are great songs! I am right now into Abacab from his days with Genesis (which I love). It features a song like “Another Day in Paradise”: “Man on the Corner”. He wrote such powerful songs.

And so I learned something new today – I didn’t know this song was about the city! 🤦🏾♀️#UnderCoverBlonde

I guess it must’ve had very little airtime over there, but yeah, a very typical sound. Mix in a few horns and you can’t really go wrong 😆.

Definitely! I have to say the horns are always my favorite. Oh well and drums too. Or a guitar. Oh come on and pick an instrument Jilly. Wishing you a great day 🙂

New one for me. Interesting the Phil Collins involvement. Good song!

Yes I got the name of the song first, as you can imagine, but was interested to find out about his involvement when I read up on it. It doesn’t seem at all like the type of music I would normally associate with him.

Oh I loved that movie Buster! I didn’t remember the song in it though. Thanks for a good memory ☺️
