Last week, Jim (newepicauthor, “A Unique Title For Me”) asked us to post something about trains (my choice is here and here – I bent the rules last week). This week, trucks & buses. Do you maybe see a pattern going on here?
For this week’s challenge I am going to go left-field, in that my link is to the album, not the song, and I am going to rewind back to the 1970s.
In 1978, Bob Marley and the Wailers were industrious artists, churning out both studio albums and live performances. So much so, that they released an album based on these live performances, Babylon by Bus. My link is as simple as that.
Babylon by Bus is a double album with tracks mainly based on their Exodus studio album, mostly recorded at concerts in the Pavillion de Paris in June, 1978. Having constrained myself to this album, my next goal was simple – just to find a decent track from it. My choice, written by Marley himself, is Stir It Up.
Stir it up!
Little darling, stir it up! (Come on baby)
Come on and stir it up little darling
Stir it up!It’s been a long long time since I’ve got you on my mind
And now you are here
I say it’s so clear
To see what we can do, baby, just me and youCome on and stir it up! Little darling, stir it up!
Come on baby come on and stir it up little darling, stir it upI’ll push the wood, I’ll blaze your fire
Then I’ll satisfy your heart’s desire
Said I’ll stir it up, yeah, ev’ry minute,
All you got to do baby, is keep it inAnd stir it up! Little darling, stir it up!
Come on and stir it up, oh, little darling, stir it up, yeahOh, will you quench me when I’m thirsty?
Come and cool me down baby when I’m hot?
Your recipe, darling, is so tasty
And you sure can stir your potSo stir it up! Little darling, stir it up!
Come on and stir it up, oh, little darling, stir it up
Come on and stir it up, oh, little darling, stir it up
I used this song yesterday in a post that I wrote because it has the word tasty in it.

I’m glad I found this challenge, always great to hear people’s different musical tastes, and how they come up with their link between prompt and song.

If I had to pick a single favourite artist, it would be Bob Marley. But, I’m glad I don’t have to 🙂

Me too. If pushed Male would be Freddie Mercury, female Imogen Heap 💜

I like Freddie Mercury too, but not so much Queen. I love Innuendo because he just sounds so vulnerable. I don’t know whether that’s the music itself, or whether it is so intertwined with his death. Imogen Heap is a new name to me but I’m just listening to something that Youtube threw at me.

I first heard a Johnny Nash cover of this song, but I love the original raggae version by Bob Marley and the Wailers better.

I found that on Youtube. Briliant, very ska-rry? I always think that music is a bit like an innocent, fresh-faced teenager, where reggae is just that bit more world-weary.
I was going to say that his next track sounded very like Jimmy Cliff – but it *is* Jimmy Cliff 🙂
