I like to think I’m the most liberal of liberals regarding sex. What other adults get up to is for them. It’s none of my business. And if I’m not involved, I don’t even have a right to approve or disapprove. From that standpoint, I can happily justify any form of sex, including murky areas such as prostitution or pornography. It may or may not be to my taste, but if people wish to do that, even if for money, then what right have I to interfere? As Fandango says, “whatever floats your boat”.
As long as everybody consents.
And having said that, I’ve found that consensual sex can be an unforgettable experience.
I was sickened therefore by the Pelicot trial, which has resonated around not only France but probably also the rest of the world. How can sex with an unconscious woman be consensual? On what planet?
The whole notion of equality, for which people have fought, died and still die, nosedives when, in the 2020s, in the first world, a woman is reduced to nothing more than a slab of meat.
Thank goodness Mme Pelicot saw the ordeal through to the trial, if only because the publicity forces us to think about the issue. In the end, it boils down to a simple matter of right and wrong.
I keep this as an anonymous blog, but to the extent that I do identify myself, I do so as a man. And as these crimes were committed by so many men, I think it’s important that other men speak out.
Any sex act, without the consent of every participant, is wrong.

Well said Pete! I can’t believe so many men were involved, how do they sleep at night. What a very strong woman, good for her for speaking about it.

It’s funny, people’s attitudes. I had a conversation recently with somebody I’d call a friend, and he suggested that the only reason he hadn’t spent his life “shagging everything that moved” waslack of opportunity. And I’m, “Really?” Because for me there’s a lot more to it than that.

Yes that’s a pretty shocking. I just think of the poor woman who had absolutely no idea what was happening to her. Crazy that so many people exist with no morals.

I have written multiple times in the past about the nature and the system which allows such mindsets wherein men in particular have a notion that they ought to have what they want. And to think that this may well be perhaps just one out of many cases where the victim has been done justice in the end. I feel sorry that institutions are solely blamed for the failure to distill proper attitude in people. It comes from within. People themselves. To even think about blaming a second party is going in the opposite direction. The rot in the society is not even mind blowing.

I agree with you in that people should know better. But failing that, I’ll settle for people being fearful of the consequences.
