I tried another of these hundred word stories.
There were two challenges in this one. One, I wanted to write something other than “moon” (which seemed too obvious), and the second was to hit the limit – I had to edit down from about 140 this time.

Bottom of the seventh, George stressed. He needed this, might even save his job. Next, Stevie Naroudasis, the big money third baseman bought last off-season, known universally as “the flop”.
“Hey, Rudy.”
“Coach?”
“Now’s your time, buddy. A run here will seal this. Gimme your best shot.”
Rudy touched his cap. “Yessir”. He strode to the mound.
Strike One. Like all season.
Strike Two. This pitcher was good.
“Best shot, Rudy. Come on.” Rudy was deep in concentration.
“Strike Thr…..” No! Unmistakeable! Steel on leather! Up and up it flew. Rudy, having never hit a ball finer, tore past First.
(100 words.)

[Send Rudy to the plate.] Everyone roots for the Mudville nine. I hoped you’d not shame Rudy. Whew!

It took ages to think of something plausible beyond “moon”.
