Chasing the Dream

For Fandango’s Story Starter #18, where we build something around the following phrase:

When I first moved here a few months back, I couldn’t believe that…

It all started when we decided to make some changes to the new house. The last occupant, Mr Ryman, was an old bachelor and, boy, it showed.

The highest priority was the twenty-year-old basement. In severe need of an update, to realise our plan of a laundry-cum-games room, ready to house my new, dream, hundred-inch plasma TV, complete with DolbyMax surround sound, the first step was the more mundane task of redecorating.

As I began stripping the walls, I encountered traces of four different papers, and at first, it seemed a good decision to take everything back to the plaster. But, when the old plaster started crumbling away with the paper, maybe I had bitten more than I could chew?

My suspicions were confirmed when I managed to strip a long, four-foot piece of paper, which not only dragged the plaster away, but… well, I saw this white bone, exactly like the things you see in cartoons!

That’s when I called the police.

And, that was the start of the nightmare.

When I first moved here a few months back, I couldn’t believe that we’d find twenty-seven dead bodies secreted in the walls of this house.

And my wife keeps bugging me to move.

  2. Oh, indeed you should have done that one on Halloween. Just think if you get bored you can always talk to
    one of the spirits, I am sure there has to be one around that doesn’t want to leave 🙂
