Do any of you remember I posted about my eye at christmas? How my vision through that eye went super-blurry?
It was difficult to quantify it because my vision is not perfect anyway. But I wrote a couple of posts over christmas when I was very spooked – it felt like the beginning of the end.
Since then, I didn’t write about it, not because it got better, more because I figured that people don’t want to listen to somebody whining all the time. And, in the couple of months since then, I’ve kinda learned to live with it.
On Saturday, I took a short afternoon nap, and as soon as I opened my eyes again everything just “felt” clearer.
Again, difficult to quantify because my eyes are damaged anyway. But at Christmas I downloaded an Eye Chart just to start keeping tabs, I’d made a mental note to look at it every month or so, and I was indeed seeing better than the last time.
Throughout the whole time, I didn’t seek medical attention. There was just too much COVID going on at the moment to feel safe anywhere near a hospital. But it looks like whatever happened has gone some way toward healing itself.
Amazing news! I didn’t realize your vision was greatly impacted, but what a reassuring thing to feel and see some improvement, even if it’s on a gradual grade.

I can use a computer just as-is, although my browser will speak posts to me. It is both less effort and quicker. That has always been the case. Well, you know… the last few years.

That’s handy with the browser reading. Can you enlarge the artwork to view? I imagine as such a great photographer you most sorely miss the zoom and detail.

Mostly I don’t, but I can Windows has a “magnifying gless” program. My text in general is 110#######################5, and most web sites, I look at 120%. Ironically with WP it is mostly the comments that force me to magnify things.

If you ever want to copy and paste, and save your eyes, I use this https://ttsreader.com/ to read my stories aloud to myself and edit them. It’s easy, and you just delete the text. No account needed. 🙂

Thanks. My current trick for that is to publish something privately, have it read my post to me, currect all thetypos, then make it public. Aside from that I use Google Translate – I also happen to follow a load of Italian blogs, for some reason. I’m not quite sure how that happened, but that’s the nice thing about this site. I’ll take a look at that link.

Good idea with the private publishing and with google translate. I have a few blogs in other languages I like as well. I should edit more, also, especially comments, I just let my fingers gush too quickly, I think. 😉

yes there is always too much haste. I often find myself putting things live when I have forgotten so sort out an image, say.

Thanks Sadge, I can only assume that something bled into my eyeball to make eyerything more opaque, and that it has now diluted. It was a pain because, even though I doubt anything could have been done, it would have been nice to know, but we spiked over Christmas so visiting a hospital was not a good idea.

What about tele-medicine? Maybe you can discuss it with a doctor on line!

What I suspect I need is a laser-scan of my eye. I’ve had them before. This would be way too specialised for a “general” doctor.

I think one has to brave the hospital for something as essential as eyesight. I have been to my eye doc for an evaluation and I need a laser to clear out the calcified lense capsule at a later date.

Thanks, Janis. I’m still at a loss to work out why I saw a step-change in my vision, but I’m hoping it continues to get a bit better. I know there’s only so far it can go but just knowing that it hasn’t deteriorated says, at least, that everything is stable.

Now that you’ve been vaccinated, maybe you could book an appointment at the opticians.
My place has a scanner and they are able to take a detailed look at the back of the eye and perhaps explain what is going on. And can refer you to the hospital if further treatment is needed.
Because they take NHS as well as private patients the staff have also been vaccinated. The staff wear PPE and appointments are spread out, no hanging around waiting to be seen. I imagine other places are the same. Not worth taking chances with your eyesight, get yourself seen pronto!

I’m tempted to go straight to the Eye Clinic at the hospital in a couple of months. I want to have the second jab before I even think about leaving the house.

I’m happy for you, Pete, that your vision is literally clearing up. That’s good news and it must be quite a relief for you.

I’m kinda convincing myself that is’s not really changed much, but I certainly read the eye chart better.

I think so. There’s still something there. Seems to depend on time of day a bit, too. I’m trying to understand it.
