I’ve seen a few posts in recent days which strike me as weird.
One post, the other day, was a grandparent wishing to meet with their grandchild, just before their country’s rules on meeting people became stricter.
The other thing was posted by Caramel overnight, who came out of work Saturday to see people dressed up as if going to a party. Turns out, they were going to a party – our country too has introduced tighter rules about gatherings, and these people were getting together in order to beat the deadline. I should add that Caramel’s sentiment was that this was a bad idea, and I’m with her 100%.
I can see why our government is saying “we must do this” (e.g. wearing a mask) and then adding “but by the way, we will only make it compulsory next Tuesday”. It is to give people time to prepare.
The virus is not going to behave one way until midnight Monday, then start behaving differently on the stroke of midnight. Those future deadlines are to give us time to adjust to it, not the other way around.
So given that there will be no discernible difference in the harmfulness of the virus in just those few days between the announcement and the enforcement, shouldn’t we be trying (as best we can) to meet the new requirements as soon as possible?
It just seems dumb to me. A new rule is coming in Tuesday so let’s make sure we all meet up Saturday. Is the virus aware of days of the week?
Incidentally, my own village has been virus-free for 3 months, yet on Monday four new cases were reported. I realise that four cases probably represents a single household, and there are maybe 1,000 households in our village, but I cancelled my coffee this week, just in case. Not only is it most likely riskier for me, it’s riskier for my buddy, also. I’m not too hung up on exactly what the UK’s new rules are – my own rule is just to be in close contact with my wife only, which probably covers my bases. I still worry a bit about who she’s in contact with, but generally, she’s pretty sensible too.

Totally agree Pete. It’s madness all around. As for mixing with others, we’d only just come out, peeking our noses out, but thinking they will go back in again now! Our cases here are going up now, and Covid is in the schools. Brought in by TEACZhERS coming back off hoildays!

You have an idea on how to awaken the miscreants who consider social contracts for everyone but themselves? I am listening. THAT pandemic is also worldwide and perhaps more insidious.

It never ceases to amaze me how STUPID people are in believing rules are for everyone else because they won’t get sick.

It’s weird that there is some circuit in there which says “it is okay now but it won’t be on Tuesday”. You know, in the context of the virus, that seems totally warped. It’s like “I will not mask because it infringes my human rights”, As if the virus care sbout human rights.

There are two grocery stores in my town. One enforces a strict ‘must mask to shop here’ rule and the other? It’s a sort of, if you want to, policy. They have good bread at the 2nd store, but my heck. The number of face hanging right out there twerps was daunting. I wore my mask, zipped in and got my bread and got out as quickly as possible. To me? They’re killing their viability as a good store. Yuck. I can hear the sound of rude laughter over here if someone tried to tell them they HAD to mask. It’s time to start imposing fines on those who don’t…

Yeah I think the individual must apply commonb sense. If you’re going into an enclosed space where people aren’t masked then that seems a higher risk than needs be. I can quite easily say I’d skip the shop altogether but I get by on the blandest bread you can imagine!

That bread store has really REALLY incredible bread. I’m going to have to find the money to buy another bread maker and just make my own at home. It’s cheaper in the long run, but that in-store bread? Crusty and just right..(i’m drooling here… Uhm

Flour here makes home=baked bread more expensive. Go figure! BNut far nicer. I used to like making it but not any more.

I must agree with you. Besides what exactly have to get used to or prepare for? It is not like these restrictions are a surprise. Have they not being going on for most of the year?….yesh🤔

People are crazy. And sometimes the announcements of new rules starts a panic, especially when border agents do not have time to set up enough entry points, so even more people get infected (talking about Trump and banning travel from UK).. UG

It’s funny. If I’d have commented on the first blog post I saw, the author would likely have asserted that they behaved very sensibly. I think we all have different ideas about “sensible”.
