Is it just me that didn’t know that this site existed?

https://www.flightradar24.com seems to offer a world map with realtime updates of flights – I’ve seen commercial, military helicopters and even gliders so far. I haven’t been near an airplane for many years but I find this stuff fascinating.
You all knew about this site already, didn’t you?

I didn’t know either, but it makes sense. there is a maritime one called AIS that does the same for ocean and coastal shipping too.

Yes I have the app. I love it, it’s very interesting. I often check to see what plane is flying over our home.

I realise how lucky that for the most part, I’m in a gap.

Yep. I travel a lot and so do others of my family, so I like to know what’s up in the air where.

Just by observation, it is very quiet here, except for military helicopters. Those things fly so low the hoiuse rattles.

If you’re like me, you feel military chopper in your chest before you hear them. Jets, props, and turboprops I learned to ignore in the service. Choppers not so much. My condolences.

I did know that and they have a great app as well, which allows you to check up on any flight around the world

Lou pointed out that there’s also one for the sea

Yes, I think there is, but I am not really following maritime traffic…

I’ll tell you what is interesting (and impossible) is tracking flights across the southern hemispheres, like a flight going from Santiago, Chile to Sydney, Australia…

I’d never really thought about it before but I’ll take a look

I’m quite fortunate because there is very little air traffic near me. So when I wake up I hear birds

Until very recently, the site also had the ability to track real time movements of private jets. It was extensively used by climate activists to troll celebs like Taylor Swift, who according to the flight radar data used her private jets for very menial looking distances. The site was apparently forced to stop tracking private jets recently.

Oh, was this the site? I heard on the news that some people were tracking the movements of her plane, never realised it was this site.

Yes sir this was the site. Even after they nerfed that feature, the site has lots of good features indeed.
