Our school lunches, I had to conclude,
Simply weren’t up to scratch as health food,
With potatoes rock hard,
Dodgy meat which was charred,
Worst of all, brussels sprouts which were stewed.

How posh! You were served meat? We were served cubes of wobbly fat. 🤣

Good thanks Misk. Been hot today, though, but managed to mow one of the lawns. You?

Good thanks, we’re just back from two weeks with family in Denmark. Perfect weather.

Oooh, lovely. Yeah, nice time of year to be up there. I’m waiting impatiently for the end of September, I’ve booked to go back to one of my old haunts – Rouen.

Perfect, Pete. Glad to hear that. We’re heading to Loire Valley in mid-September for a week.

Give me a homemade lunch of a PB&J sandwich everyday instead instead of a school lunch.

Ah! The Master returns. Happily consumed the ditty, while disagreeing on “institutional” food service, and by the way, I love brussels sprouts, spinach, kale, and other ingestibles considered foul by most.

Guess. Also like working up a good honest sweat, stupid BBC comedy shows, baling hay, and a good joke. Mea culpa.

They tried to sell that Britbox nonsense to us but I already paid a license fee. Used to, anyhow. These days I stream everything.

😂 That’s why I didn’t like Brussel sprouts until I was a grown-up and made them for myself. We were actually given a letter to take home, when I was in elementary school, explaining to parents why the hotdogs were green. 🤣

Ha! Whatever the reason, that can’t have been good 🤣
Though I did learn that the “pink” of hot dogs is all due to colourings. Naturally they should be white – bratwursty. Kinda makes you nervous, doesn’t it?

Nervous? Not me, I eat veggie dogs. 😅 Right you are – they were disgusting. 🤢

I used to love ’em with onions and ketchup but mostly can’t handle the bread any more. There’s a place I like to eat sometimes which does beef dogs. I tried veggie dogs when I sidn’t eat meat – I hope they improved!

They are not that exciting – just an easy lunch and toppings are a must!

When I was first veggie the options really weren’t good. I went to a restauranr when over in DC once and asked what they had that was vegetarian. The only thind they had was the green salad!
I tried to go veggie a few years back – this time for environmental reasons – and while the plant-based food is far better it was all so processed… I think the sipermarkets hide from us just how much carbon is used to create this food.

You do have a valid point, although there are more options now, “healthy” labels can be misleading. Most of my market purchases are made in the produce department. 🥦

Yeah that was my conclusion, too. Life started to become tricky when I no longer had access to a supermarket every week, so had to start stocking up frozen food.

That would be a tricky situation. Stocking up is smart in the “best” of times. 👍🏻
