You’d think, after a political party has been in power for fourteen years, that come election time, they’d have a list of things as long as your arm to crow about.
Unemployment? Standard of living? Achievements on immigration, even? I mean, that’s a major issue at the moment.
So I was surprised, therefore, to hear Rishi Sunak’s speech today, in which he announced a General Election in the UK. Nothing about his own record. All he talked about was the bogeyman, the danger of voting for the other main party.
I’d have thought he’d have lots of really constructive reasons we should vote for his party, but no. Negative, negative, negative. Don’t vote for the other guy, because he’ll boil your children in oil, then eat them for lunch.
All you UK voters out there, make a note during this campaign. Is the sitting party talking to you about its own achievements, or is it trying to make you fear the alternatives?

Quite honestly, what achievement does this government have to talk about? Besides the overall reasonable to good handling of the pandemic I can’t really think of anything…

You’re right, but following the enquiry, I’m not even sure about that! But it really galls me that yje government expects us to forget its own record, and just wants to evoke fear.

I suppose that’s the only way they might be able to keep voters on their side… the fear that the opposition is even worse…
