I see there’s a prompt about quotes going around today. How about:
If we can find the money to kill people, we can find the money to help people.
Tony Benn.

A man of many quotes. All of them brilliant 🖤

Absolutely. I never agreed with him on everything but he was a switched-on chap. I met him once, about the only “celebrity” I ever met. Or wanted to.

We sure can, but do people want to help/ feed people?

Exactly. Ultimately, it is a choice.

And we are mostly selfish so our choices will reflect that.

Well, certainly here, our countries repeatedly elect right-of-centre politicians so that seems so. But that attitude seems very short-sighted.

Yes it is not only shortsighted but extremely inhumane

It’s interesting how far it has propagated. I heard the other day that politicians have worked out that when people see a new rule, or law, whatever, the first thing they will ask is “what’s in it for me”. I mean, politicians aree aware of this so will word things accordingly.
I look back and I think the main thing about the Thatcher/Reagan years was that they made us more selfish, as societies.

I agree with you Pete. Especially in western countries, where the voter is mostly educated, this is very prevalent
