Don’t Rock The Boat, Baby

I had to laugh. If I didn’t, I’d cry.

Air flights over the UK are suffering major disruption, yesterday and today, due to “a fault”. No shit, Sherlock!

In typical reserved Great Britain, did anybody think to ask what fault? Cyber attack? That’s pretty dangerous if somebody can break into Air Traffic Control systems, surely they need beefing up? Underinvestment? Or rather, funds that should have been invested, going to pay somebody’s bonus instead? Maybe “just” somebody not doing their job properly? Or spilling their morning coffee over their computer?

I’m all ears. I detest the lack of transparency in our society.

It seems I’m not the only one unimpressed:

It is not acceptable that UK Nats [the UK Air Traffic Control service] simply allow their computer systems to be taken down, and everybody’s flights get cancelled or delayed.

  1. And all the cutesy neotechies slobber all over themselves and their trackballs when someone mentions AI. Children should not be allowed to play with computer software. Computer children that grow up (chronologically speaking, that is) should not be allowed to breed.

  2. It was apparently a bit of faulty flight data from National Air Traffic Service, and the system ground to halt to keep accurate info flowing to the traffic controllers.
