I just thought my Mister Bump readers might enjoy this childhood mmory I just posted on the music blog I co-host, Songshine Sounds.
I was listening to Spotify this morning. I just said “play music by Mozart”, and from there it was random. Any of you who know me, know that Mozart is one of my favourite composers.
And it played a piece I don’t think I’ve heard since childhood. I performed this as a part of a church choir. Like one of those little boys you see in the video (yes, once upon a time I was that cute. What went wrong?). Before I ever knew who Mozart was!

Oh to be blessed with a voice that brings joy. Did your mum have any recordings of you singing?

She did. On cassette. I managed to record over it. That is a big regret, certainly as I got older I realised the significance.

We had the same, as parents. We’d kept all the cards from her first birthday for years, then one day she got her hands on them…

I too regret how easy it was to record over cassettes.

There was a time, wasn’t there, when blank cassettes were quite expensive? My memory might be warped because this is childhood anyway.
Certainly wnen I was older, I bought a fresh cassette each time, even cared about which cassettes I bought. But as a youngster, I had to re-use.

Made me cry, oddly. Very beautiful. I would love to be part of a choir. Maybe when this pandemic is over I will take myself out and do something about it.

Mrs Bump did just that four or five years ago, and she loves it. It’s a big social opportunity, too.
