This is my response to this week’s Flashback Track Friday prompt, where I was inspired by the track “You’re All I’ve Got Tonight” from The Cars’ eponymous 1978 album.
Challenged myself with a hundred-word flash today.
Our first date. Should I have been more tactful? Still, kill or cure. She’ll either like me or…
I smile weakly. “You all right?”
With hindsight, I should have noticed her face growing purple, giving some warning. But startled, I flinch as she sweeps her napkin, tearing it from her lap, onto the waiting table. In a seemingly singular movement, she swiftly stands, knocking the table in the process. Her side plate crashes to the parquet floor, alerting diners to our altercation.
Without words, she turns and flounces out.
On reflection, at least she didn’t spill the claret.
