She looked at the mantlepiece; a quarter to twelve. It’d be on in another five minutes, At least if Moira resolved to watch the countdown, then went to bed, she could truthfully tell her co-workers that she’d welcomed in the New Year.
At first, she thought it was only the dog making noise, but it was sound asleep it its basket. Bloody fireworks had made her more twitchy than Eddie!

Seeing in the new year is highly over-rated. And as for Jools … (pffft!)

I do not like the NYE nor do I celebrate it.I put my ear plugs in and watch something so I am not even aware of when it is. When I use to watch it on TV many many years ago I always got the impression that people were trying too hard to look like they were having a good time.

I’m generallty fast asleep by then. I enjoyed NYE in my early 20s when we would go clubbing. Because that’s what it’s all about when you’re that age!

There’s quite a rich vein of pop shows from then, which are nostalgic to watch now. But there was an awful lot of rubbish thrown in. They used to have a weekly show here called Top of the Pops, and they showed a few old episodes over Christmas just gone.

I remember Top of the Pops! It came on very late where we lived so I wasn’t allowed to watch it

My dog barks at anything that moves, and when fireworks are going off you can tell how much it upsets him because he barks all the time.

I have two dogs that loathe fireworks and bark incessantly so NYE is a bloody nightmare for us

My dog was terrified by them, he would go into the closet and shake terribly. He even dug a hole in the wall he was
so afraid. People just don’t think.
