When my eyesight was still good, I was a bit of an amateur photographer. This is one of mine.
Cancale, in Brittany, in mid-July. Cancale is just 10km or so along the coast from Saint Malo. I used to go across on the ferry to Saint Malo, with my bicycle. We arrived around 8 AM and this was a wonderful place to enjoy petit-dejourner.
Paradise.
Lovely shot. Love the curve of the land. Those houses ( almost looks like a hotel) on the extreme right look so lovely.
Plus you caught the turrets behind it.

I can’t remember if there was a hotel on the front or not, certainly restaurants.

It is, isn’t it? The trouble with seaside in this part of the world is that for 9 months it is grey.

So you enjoy it all more when you get to see it.

Strange, but I prefer overcast skies to bright days, but if you want to go to a beach I suppose most want the sun out.
When I lived in Florida I lived in Pensacola with the white sandy beaches and would go out after the sun was setting.

I never saw an ounce on sunlight when I was in Florida!

Agree those houses look lovely and the reflection in the water divine

It’s a lovely part of the world. France in aboutthe same population as here, but double the area, so it always felt “spaced out” there. Which added to the tranquility.

There’s definitely a calming effect there especially by the water

Brittany is one of those places – you need to spend time there, because even then, tere are lim ited opportunities for good weather. But when it’s good, it’s good.

Off the top of my head, when I met friends in Normandy (next region along) in the summer, we bought flounder from the quay

Ahh sounds great
Normandy is on the travel list

Rouen is a great city anytime. We used to stay there frequently and the train runs there from Saint-Lazare, I think. The beaches are best enjoyed at the height of summer. There is a memorial at Omaha which attracts visitors but tbh you get a better idea of the atmosphere a few km doyn the coast. Most of the coastline has rewilded, and provides a startling contrast to the manicured cemeteries.

actually Paris was a brilliant “winter” city. Too oppressive in the summer. London’s the same.

I’m hoping to go to London next May! Paris in October next year! Fingers crossed 🤞

In the summer it was easier to travel from the US to Frtance, than it was UK to France. The French want US money!

Ahh good to know! I’m not fond of travel in the summer too hot and too expensive

They are cynical here – prices go up and down depending on school holidays.

I have found summer travel anywhere even in US the prices of everything skyrocket versus fall or winter travel but many have vacation in the summer with family and can only travel then 😞

Yeah, we started to be tied to school holidays when she hit secondary school (we just have primary and secondary as opposed to your three tiers).
In primary (up to about year 6) we would take her out for a week in May/June. The weather is best in early summer anyhow. Bright but not too hot. French Open tennis!

Ahh did you ever go to French Open? I have that on my list of to do’s and Wimbledon too but I think that’s much harder to get tickets for
LikeLiked by 1 person
We looked at going, but no. For both, the only way really to get tickets is to get one of these travel agent deals, which will cost thousands.
I mean, there are ways of getting tickets if you’re prepared to investigate, but just as someone not really into tennis, wanting a day out…
The week before Winbledon, there is a warm-up tournament at a place called Eastbourne, for the women. Gets all the big names. Always figured that would be a better bet than Wimbledon itself. Queens is a similar tournament for men. But maybe that’s the tactic? Get tickets for the warm-up tournament instead?

That’s an idea! Broadway tickets in the mid 2000s used to be so hard to get and mega expensive but ever since 2008-2009 economic crash it has been much more affordable although right now I’m not sure 🤔

It was similar in London I guess. There were plenty of agencies; I suspect you could get tickets for most anything, provided you were prepared to pay their booking fee.
Especially musicals 🤣

I tend to think of both about the same. It’s good because these places were once very remote to us, but now we see what’s happening.
Okay, “good” isn’t the right word. But at least the public is aware of what is happening as opposed to being ignorant.

True ignorant is not always blissful sometimes it’s dangerous as it was for US in 2016

It’s difficult to see what will bring the US together. I see two sides, each becoming more extreme and less tolerant. And those are onlythe sides I see.

You get the best view on TV but the best atmosphere, live. It can be quite underwhelming – you have to keep your space for about 4 hours and then they’re gone in 20s!
I found the time trial was the best stage to watch – they stagger them so that you get one rider every two minutes.
But I loved it and went to about a dozen stages in all.
