(Almost) inspired by Fandango’s One Word Challenge (FOWC) of 16 November 2021, ungainly.
The eight-foot tall extra was hired,
His big break in a movie, inspired,
But with ungainly appearance,
And lack of coherence,
The director announced he was fired.
Actually, the word ungainly reminds me of one man… Tommy Cooper.
He was a giant of a man who just looked awkward in everything he did. As a performer, he would have the audience in stitches before even doing anything. He was actually an accomplished magician and I thought it was so skillful, how he got tricks so perfectly “wrong”.

Richard Kiel “Jaws” from Roger Moores Bond days that’s the first person came to mind but he did really well ! Also Andre the Giant from The Princess Bride he almost stole that movie but for Mandy Patinkin

I remember him. Talent disguised as a buffoon. Neat post. Nice recollection. Thanks.

Yup, he is absolutely who I think of. I was going to do the main limerick about him but figured more folks would never have heard of him.

You never heard of him? Oh, you poor thing. British comedian cum magician. He was part of the generation that was spawned from entertaining troops in WW2. Died in the Eighties but, big star here

Nope never heard of him. Hey I’m just discovering many British shows from the 2000s and 1990s. I’ve got a list 10 miles long 😁

I think my generation and above remembers him. /tbh I’m surprised that you do. The war spawned lots of class acts.

I’m quite a fan of magic, so I know of him through watching magic clip shows of him doing his cups and balls trick and magic stand up comedy as well.
