Reblog: Flashback Track Friday #32 – The Carpenters

Any of you enjoy Karen Carpenter?

Songshine Sounds

Welcome once again to Flashback Track Friday. Each week, either KK or Mister Bump will present a song to you, and out of that song, will prompt you with a question.

I heard The Carpenters a lot as a boy, they were very popular on the radio stations my parents listened to, but I was so young, it was just music. Insignificant. I was fourteen when Karen died, and I was meh – a singer 5,000 miles away in LA was a far cry from me in provincial Liverpool.

Shotgun

inspired by Fandango’s One Word Challenge (FOWC) of 3 September 2021, consent.

She met boyfriend unworthy called John,
Dad forbade them from carrying on,
Father only relented,
With reluctance, consented,
When he found she was seven months gone.

My auntie – only born in the 1940s – will often refer to not being allowed to do things, because her father would not give his permission. Seems unreal, now.
