Who Won the Week (14 March 2021)

In response to Fandango’s Who Won the Week post, I have been looking at my own newsfeeds.

A very short story this week. In Nottinghamshire, UK, the Police Force wants to hire somebody with the specific role of investigating the growing trend of dog thefts. Purely and simply, if you’re a dog-owner in living in Nottinghamshire… woo-hoo, you hit the jackpot, buddy.

That’s it. Nottinghamshire dog owners won the week. So you, my friends, have a good week.

What’s that? You want a bit more for taking the trouble to visit my post? Are you insatiable or something?

Okay, since we are on the subject of the police, let’s follow through with that, shall we? In 2010, there were 164,330 officers. From that point, for a full ten years, we had cuts in the numbers – in 2019 the number was 143,590. It was only then that numbers started to rise again. In 2020, they were 149,660.

Coincidentally, 2010 was an election year in the UK. It signalled a major change in direction, to blue. The Conservatives (blue) have been the main party ever since. Also coincidentally, 2019 was an election year.

I really don’t wish to make a political point here, because everybody seems to be as bad as each other, but it is interesting that the Conservatives always want to own the “law and order” subject. It is repeatedly an election issue. They repeatedly accuse opponents of being soft. Do you have a party like that, where you are?

Forget what people say, just look at the numbers. Are they willing to fund a police force or not?

I suppose at least our dogs will feel safer.

Life through the Lens (14 March 2021)

When my eyesight was still good, I was a bit of an amateur photographer. This is one of mine.

A real baudy one today, so please, skip me if you might be offended. I thought it was hilarious. I ran it by a friend who also thought it was funny, so I’m gonna run with it. I can get away with these every now and again, right?

Still here? You asked for it!

There once was a fellow called Fred,
Was so hunky, he made women spread,
But his secret affection,
Lay in other direction,
And he shacked up with Jason instead
