Who Won the Week (6 December 2020)

I always liked Fandango’s Who Won the Week post, and like to join in with some quirky stories from my own newsfeeds. All from our unique vantage points, the idea is to pick something (a person, organisation, anything) which “won” the week.

No names, I’m afraid, this week, because this case only happened last weekend, and has not gone to court yet. So please, take everything I say with a heavy dose of “allegedly”.

But names not withstanding, let me try to set the scene. Last Saturday afternoon, two men, driving a Suzuki Vitara, were stopped by police just outside the village of Hooe, in East Sussex, UK. Understand, from the get-go, that this is a rural area.

The car, once stopped, decides to speed off. There then follows a high-speed car chase, with police in pursuit. The Suzuki narrowly escapes a head-on collision with a BMW.

Seeing very few options available to them, the two men abandoned the Suzuki just outside the village of Watling. The police, still pursuing, gave chase on foot.

The officers soon caught up with the driver, and a 27-year-old man was arrested for, among other things, pinching the car.

His passenger, however, was more determined, and sprinted off into a farmyard in an attempt to get away. There, unfortunately, his luck ran out. He slipped and ended up in a pool of slurry – and was subsequently found by police, neck-deep in… well… COW SHIT.

For some reason, this amusing tale somehow got leaked – by Sussex Police themselves – onto social media. Alongside were various quips about him making a “clean getaway”, and so on.

So, my winner this week is this 24-year-old, who is also currently helping Sussex Police with their enquiries.

  1. Hahaha…sounds like one of the ‘dumb crook’ stories my brother used to tell me when he was on the Clearwater, Florida PD. He would call me out of the blue, tell stories for 30-40 minutes until I was crying from laughing so hard. When he was through, he’d say “C’ya!” and hang up for another couple months. Never got tired of his stories.

My mom told a story on her brother when they were growing up. He learned to ride one of his dad’s steers around the barn lot. In the middle of it was a huge pile of straw used for bedding. The cattle had burrowed thru it to make a tunnel to walk into in the summertime to keep flies off of them. At a family reunion (on the farm) her brother got all of the cousins to come watch him ride. All was good until the steer headed for the tunnel – which wasn’t big enough him and his passenger. Her brother got stripped off the animal and landed ass over apple cart in a big pile of cow shit. He was yelling for the animal to “Whoa”, and “don’t go in the tunnel”. His cousins chided him for not teaching the animal that last command.
