for Fandango’s One Word Challenge (FOWC), fit. When I saw the prompt today I thought immediately about writing about some characters I developed, but I quite like writing my daily poem, so what better than a poem about these characters?
It’s funny, when I write about the characters, I deliberately avoid anything physical, because I think attraction is an intellectual thing. But, of course he fancies her! Who wouldn’t?
A lonely man, not long divorced,
His humdrum life running its course,
He was lucky enough to have a job he prized,
As his life imploded, his world downsized.
Their meeting was a quirk of fate,
Neither looking for a mate,
A short-term gig to help them out,
Anna would help end Paul’s drought.
When Paul met Anna, thought she was fit.
An attractive girl, if he’d just admit.
But office rules being what they are,
Paul admired her from afar.
When at last he found the circumstance,
Plucked up courage, took the chance,
A risky business, she might misread,
But fortunately, she agreed.
Even on their date, Paul was not sure,
Were they just friends, or something more?
Insecure, his hopes were slim,
What could she possibly see in him?
Anxiety threatened to betray,
Anna might call it all a day,
I’m glad she overcame her doubt,
So I have lots to write about.
Love is such
A funny old thing
Can make you sad
Or make you sing….
I look forward to your daily poems

A lot of it boils down to how much time I have on any given day. And the prompt, of course. You should try it!

Unh, no, thanks. Poetry (in even the shortest and light form) is diff-e-cult. I have all I can do to manage a 3-a-week blog and an occasional rant. Besides, there’s all these perfessionals running arount.

The prompt is just a word, you can do what you want with it. But I understand, I started responding because I deliberately wanted to post something daily throughout lockdown, so this prompt was ideal. I kept it up because I enjoy it, but a lot of prompts, I’ve pulled back.

It’s good fun. The interenet helps by suggesting rhymes although I’m using it less and less.
