The Eyes Have It (Fandango’s Friday Flashback)

Prompt image for the Flashback Friday prompt

Yay, it is Friday again, and Fandango has just published his Friday Flashback post. The idea is that he picks a post from this day in a previous year, to give newer readers a better insight into what does and doesn’t make him tick.

I have always liked that idea, so shall also post my own reminiscence. As much as anything, it reminds me of where I was, where I am now, and how far I have come. Hopefully, you will find it entertaining along the way.

Oh, and thank you to Jennifer at Paperkutzs for allowing me to use her image.

Today I found a post from around three years ago, about my eye health.

I talk in the post about a doctor saying I required treatment, and of wanting a second opinion. As it happened, when I next went, I saw my original doctor (we do not have the choice here of who we see), and he was unconcerned. So I was right to question the diagnosis.

My eyes aren’t any better, I have been told that the damage was permanent, but I can generally get by. Just on my eyes alone, I could drive (with glasses), although other effects of the stroke make driving difficult. Reading is a slow process, which is why I listen to most of your posts. I was told very early on that the only thing which could stop my eyes from getting worse was keeping control of my diabetes, and at least this is now well-controlled.

I’m still meant to have my eyes monitored regularly, but the appointments seem to have petered out. One appointment, my transport let me down; another appointment, they did not inform me until after the appointment had passed (unbelievable, but true). So all told it is probably 2 years since I have seen them. COVID will not have helped. My vision does not feel that it has deteriorated any, and my sugar control is good, but… I’d sooner rely on a scan than on my judgement.

Oh, and lastly, this blog used to be called “Stroke Survivor”, a pretty direct reference, which explains the initial comment.

The Eyes Have It

Although the name of this blog is health-related, I’ve been quite lucky that health issues haven’t come into play for a while. That changed last week. I’m diabetic. The odds are, it caused the stroke. It also caused problems with my eyes. I’ve had a couple of treatments and have had regular scans ever since. … Continue reading “The Eyes Have It”

    1. 🤣. I am usually okay. I can see the tv, but need glasses to see the programme guide on the tv. I now have a prescription for reading glasses too, but very weak still and I can generally read things without magnification.
All except for food labels, which seem to be written in 4pt fonts!
