Written for Fandango’s One-Day Clallenge (FOWC), boycott.
Geoff Boycott is an English former-cricketer, who played for Yorkshire and England. He was a big name within the sport and had a long international career, from 1964-82.
There. That’s my knowledge of cricket exhausted. Even that last bit, I looked up.
I do remember him for other reasons, though. He was convicted for domestic violence in the early Eighties. And, as recently as 2017, he said – as a commentator – that he would probably receive a knighthood, if he blackened his face.
In fact, he duly was given a knighthood in 2019, without any boot polish being involved. When the award was criticised by domestic violence campaigners, Boycott said that he does not give a toss.
You know how sometimes you read things about famous people and figure you would (or wouldn’t) get on with them, if you ever met them in real life?
I am glad to know I am not the only one who doesn’t want to ever meet some people. I will say I go a large step further. There have been some people I admired, but when I found out some truths about them I refused to have anything to do with them again. Some issues can’t be shades of gray. I no longer will listen to Barbara S after reading her statements about Michael J.

Yes it’s funny, I know that being a good role model was never part of these people’s contract, but being a decent human being is kind-of a baseline, for me.
